ok; like all of you; I've got thousands of pictures on my machine.
a lot of them; are kinda meh. not bad enough to delete; but not good enough; to require the full 4mb's of space; not when I could just shrink 99% of them to like 1k pixels...and shrink them to like 100kb
can anyone give me, either software plugin or maybe tell me how i can convince photoshop seven to do so...I want to basically subfolder all of my better pics, that I don't want resized, then block like. twenty, or a hundred pics at a time, and resize them all. something that i could do easily, and let the computer chug on them, with little monitoring.
advice, instructions; please!

This kinda depends on which operating system you use.
All OS's...I'd go with ImageMagick...
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php
It's a command-line utility that runs on Mac's, Linux, and Windows based PC's. To do a directory of images, you'd do something like...
mogrify -resize 1000x1000 *.jpg
...and the program will resize images to 1000x1000, retaining appropriate aspect ratio. If you want to save the originals, you'd use convert instead of mogrify. Either way, you get what you want.
If you don't like the idea of a command-line program, then some free GUI programs that might work for you are...
WINDOWS - irfanview.com and faststone.org
MAC - Graphic Converter from http://www.lemkesoft.com/
LINUX - well, I'm not sure but most distros have GIMP or some other program that'll do this. They probably even have Image Magick preinstalled.
My personal preferences are, for Windows, to use FastStone's program. It's pretty neat. On Mac's, I would opt for Graphic Converter (it's not free, but it only nags you if you don't pay the shareware fee).
Hope this helps.

I've got myself a decent digital camera, the Canon Xti. I've gotten a couple new lenses, past that silly 18-55. the Canon EF 75-300 [man, i wish i saved up to get the one with IS] and the Canon 28-135 WITH IS. it's my standard lense, and it's been commented to be nice glass. should hope so, it costed more than the camera body.
my complaint, is that pictures aren't coming out any better. hell, I'll take just as nice pictures, on my old P&S canon powershot S1.
I know how depth of field, works in relation to the F-stops, I know how motion capture, and image blur can be affeced by shutter speed, i know how composition, can be influenced by white balance, and iso settings. but I'm still new to manual cameras, I need more practice, and I need more, education.
I'll be at the walkabout this coming may, and I'm looking to make some friends, that I can hang out with, and tap them for tricks, and "lessons" and I'd love to go out, on photography shoots, frequently, my work load is far too light right now, so my schedule is flexible.
send me an email, if you wanna say hi, or post here. after all this is a thread, you can reply to it.
